The strewn JPEGs, truncated videos and clipped paragraphs of Digital Detritus move through Baudrillard's four phases of images; simultaneously representing, masking, and playing with the reality they represent or abandoning it altogether. The sites, like the content they host, have fallen between the cracks, into the digital dustbin of the web which has been misplaced; somewhere between legitimate artist and gallery sites and the "most popular" section on YouTube.

Online Window present Digital Detritus and this month artist Xin Cheng works in the Onsite space at the General Library, The University of Auckland, Alfred Street.
Onsite / Xin Cheng
Elam artist Xin Cheng will be working in our onsite space every day. The process will be documented online in a daily photograph by Xin, as well as a webcam setup in the space (coming soon). "We believe that responding to things in the first person is very important. We do not feel that art is a tool for bettering oneself or society, but that the process of making and watching is a necessary activity for us." (from the artist's text)
Closing party. Thursday, 1st March at 6pm at Window. View accompanying text and info. http://window.auckland.ac.nz/
